John Denver

I’m listening to John Denver and for some reason whenever I play his music it strikes a deep chord in me. My favourites would have to be Rocky Mountain High. I like to turn it right up and just let the words wash over me. The other one is Take Me Home Country Roads, although I have been a city girl for well over 20 years. I would never want to live in the country again.

I tend to like the older music. At the moment I’m playing Elton John. But not his recent hits – I like all his old hits. Rocket Man, Candle in the Wind and Daniel. I also like Neil Diamond and I play his CD’s quite often. I saw him in concert years ago and wished I’d been closer to the stage. I also saw Tom Jones in concert and while I don’t really play his music much now, I do like it. All the old songs like green, green grass of home. I think I’m an old fashioned girl in my music tastes. I also have the Eagles and their hit Hotel California, which I love.

I find that I can spend a whole day in silence without thinking of putting on music but when I do I really enjoy it. I used to have the radio on all the time but I hate listening to the news report every hour. I think we need a break from the news, otherwise it can become overwhelming.

I wonder why some music strikes a chord more than others? I really didn’t think John Denver’s music would bring a tear to my eye but I’ve been known to cry with his music. Depending on my mood. Calypso is another song I like of John Denver’s. It’s a very uplifting song. It was a huge loss when John Denver died but he has left behind beautiful music.

Sleep

Tired
Too much on my mind
For sleep
Too hot
Too cold
Throw the quilt off
Pull the quilt on
Up
Down
Toss and turn
Too much thinking
In between
Trying to sleep
Worry
Thoughts whirling
Morning
Sheets twisted
Tonight......
Fresh bed
Fresh sheets
Sleep
Blissful sleep
Please

Strength

I can take on the world
I am strength, inner strength
And outer strength
I am nobody’s fool
Never again
I have grown
To be what I am today
I stand against the sky
With my head held high
I am strength
I am pride and understanding
I am a little girl beginning to fly
I am a young woman learning about life
I am an adult woman, learning about myself
I am me, a life ever revolving, always growing.

Summer Holidays

Holidays
Long summer days of sun
Hot rays beating on the earth
Air-conditioning, sweaty people
Dogs with tongues hanging out
Sky full of blue, yellow sun
Night full of stars, millions of them
A certain smell, of sprinklers on grass
Ice cream, icy poles
Salads and barbeques at night
Beaches full of swimmers
Lazy summer days, reading in the shade
Late nights, too hot to sleep
Fans swishing around on the ceiling
Music carrying through the night
A long hot summer break
Stretching over hot summer months.

Always

I’m on the sidelines
Invisible
On the peripheral of others lives
Never really involved
Never really seen
Just existing
A ghost
Floating on a breeze
A whisper in life
I’m alone
Essentially alone
I’m depression
Deep and dark and lonely
A valley that drops forever
A well that never knows an end
Always waiting
Always watching
For a vulnerable moment
To sneak in
To take over
To wrap around dark arms
That grip and squeeze and hurt
Tears in eyes that burn
A loss of hope for the future
Thoughts dark and destructive
Life lived through a façade
Of laughter, smiling, normalcy
But always alone
Always.

I'd rather no comments on this one. Today is just how it is.

Rebel Child

Rebel child
Play
Laugh
Have fun
Let nobody hold you back
Listen inside
Not to what others say
But that little voice within
Rebel child
Joyous
Free
With a glint in her eye
Enjoy
Cut the tape that binds you
Even the one within your heart
Dance
Twirl
Just be
Rebel child
Be free
