Garden Shed Number Two

Dark and dingy, doors closed, soon to be thrown open
Cobwebs hanging from the ceiling, spiders scuttling
Running for a dark place, away from the light
Venture a little bit inside, that’s if you’re game
Brush away the cobwebs, avoid the cockroaches running around
Pull aside the dust covers; be curious for what’s underneath
Treasures in the corner, things stored long ago
Not a garden shed, so much more than that
Storage for memories, snug in their cocoons
Toys, from kids long grown up, a doll with a vacant face
A spinning top, a toy from an era gone, drunkenly lopsided
Garden tools, for a garden long overgrown with weeds
A squeak, as a mouse runs over your feet, don’t be afraid
It’s headed for it’s hiding place, way out of your reach
As you venture further inside, the door slowly closes behind
Now you’re in darkness and your heart beats fast, gasping air
You can’t see your hand in front of your face, total blackness
Something brushes your hand and you stifle a scream
Goosebumps appear on your skin, and you shiver in the dark
As your eyes adjust to the darkness, afraid almost to blink
A shadow appears in front of you and out comes a bloodcurdling shriek
Light, bright and glaring, the laugh of so called friends
As you’re led shaking and stuttering out of the garden shed
Sent on a treasure hunt, the map still clasped in your hand
Whose idea was this, a birthday treat they’d said
A treasure hunt, exploring haunted old sheds, an adventure
But the laughs on them, as they head away from the dark
As a haunting voice follows them down the track, cackling in its glee
You’ll be back, just wait, you’ll be back……………………….

Flirty Chook

Roses was asking about Chooky girl, so I thought I’d give you an update on my chook with the personality plus. In case you haven’t read the previous posts, chooky girl was a battery hen and I bought her, along with another chook, about 8 months ago now. Sadly the other chook died but chooky girl is still going strong.

At the moment she isn’t laying eggs but she was giving me an egg a day at one stage, so she’s a good layer. Then she went down to one every two days and now she’s not laying at all. I think it is too cold now and she is moulting as well. My next-door neighbours chooks aren’t laying either so that reassures me.

Actually I think chooky girl is in love with the rooster next door. Handsome looking fellow he is too. She’s taken to standing against the fence and flirting with him. As for handsome fellow, he starts cockadoodledooing to get her attention.

I don’t think she realises that she’s a bit of a cradle snatcher. Handsome fellow is only just learning to cockadoodledoo and it sounds like an adolescent rooster whose voice is breaking!! A really weird sound, I can tell you that!! So my chooky girl must have at least twelve months on him. I suppose that’s not too bad but he is only a young lad.

I’m almost thinking of asking my next-door neighbour if I can put them together. I might get a batch of little chickens then!! He’s a very handsome black colour and a very nice looking fellow so they’d have lovely looking chicks together. Maybe a cross between her brown colour and his black colour. I’ll keep you posted on what happens.

The Old Garden Shed

Enola mentioned in her comment about having a basement at her place. In Australia we have “the shed”, rather than basements or attics. The Aussie shed is usually used to store garden utensils and anything to do with outside. Like the lawnmower is usually in there, rakes, shovels, fertiliser and all that sort of stuff. Some people use their sheds to store other things as well they don’t need to use for a while – a bit like the basement or attic.

I have a real phobia about the garden shed. We have a lot of spiders and creepy crawlies in Australia and the garden shed is one of the places they like the most!! Or in my mind they like it the most. It’s nice and dark because it doesn’t get opened regularly and spiders just love it!! I’ve lived in places where I’ve stored things in the shed and never gone in there again!! Even when I’ve moved, someone else has had to go in there. You can get insect bombs that you set off and leave for a while and they’re supposed to get rid of spiders and things in your shed. Do I trust them though??? NOPE!! Still won’t go in there.

I have an old wardrobe on my back decking. It hasn’t got much in there – I think my old barbeque and a couple of other things. I’ve moved here, put them in there, with great trepidation and never opened it again. To me it’s the same as the garden shed – it’s been closed up and is nice and dark, so creepies are really going to like it. And it is outside. I won’t store more things in there because I won’t open it to clean it out!!

Would I go into something like an attic or a basement because it’s inside? Probably not. It’s still a dark place that might have lotsa creepies that have decided to make it their home. Everything has to be open and light for me. I have to be able to see things clearly. What’s that song – I can see clearly now, the rain has gone, I can see all obstacles in my way. In this case I can see anything that is likely to bite, jump or crawl towards me!!

Operation Tidy Up!!

I’ve had a really good throw out today and I’m feeling quite pleased with myself. I’m not really a hoarder. I’m actually very good at throwing stuff out. But all this stuff was from a filing cabinet and I’d got a bit lax after a while and just chucked papers in there willy nilly. The top cabinet of the filing cabinet had got stuck and I’d pulled all the files out. They were all over the floor of my spare room.

So this morning I thought, okay, I’ve got to get motivated and the first thing I need to tackle is the stuff from the filing cabinet. Well, I am about three quarters of the way through sorting out all the papers and I’ve thrown so much paper out. A lot of it was old bills, mainly from 2005, not that far back I suppose. But it was mainly papers that I’d saved from doing courses and from when I was studying before. There was interesting stuff in there too, that I’d forgotten about.

I feel like I’ve got the tidy up, change things and have a good clean bug at the moment. I’ve really let things go because I get busy with my Uni work and because I was feeling low on energy for a while, which I discovered was because a dosage of medication I’m on was too low. So now I feel like I’ve recovered some of my energy and I’m looking at my place, thinking now what can I do. I’m not one of those people whose house has to look like a showpiece all the time – I like my house to be comfortable and lived in.

So starting tomorrow its operation tidy up and clean the house time. A friend said to me recently, how do you keep your floorboards so shiny and I said it’s probably cause I don’t wash them!! Or not often anyway. So maybe it is time to give the house a good winter clean, as opposed to spring clean. Gotta do it when the mood is right otherwise it could be any season and it still won’t get done!!

Que Sera Sera

The tears and the sadness hit so suddenly
Is it the music I’m playing, bringing forth memories?

Or is it the wishful thinking of things that are too late
Is it that things have changed so much and I feel the loss
Is it hearing from you, knowing we’re so far apart?
It’s me that bought about the changes, me that changed
Is it that I know you hurt, the same as I hurt
But I can’t help that, change brings its own hurt
I don’t know where the tears are coming from
They seemed to come out of nowhere, with a deep sadness
I can’t pretend that it didn’t happen, I can’t go back
We can only go on from here I guess, but different
Life happens and life continues on, taking us with it
Que Sera Sera, whatever will be will be.

You think you know me

You think you know me, when you don’t know me at all
I’m a façade, which smiles on the outside
I’m a cauldron of feelings, bubbling over the pot
I’m anger, which wants to destroy her world
I’m sadness, which wants to take away her life
I’m a smile, because that’s what they expect
Good old Kazza, just put her in a box
Throw her away, a rag doll with no use at all
I’m the tears, which people rarely see
I’m loneliness, which wraps me in tentacles, no escape
I’m the one you think you know, but you’ve got me wrong
I’m the one who will surprise you, when you least expect it
The quiet one, put her in a box and hide her away.

Just Thinking

Just writing, what will come out I don’t know
Thinking a lot, of things past, the present
How far I’ve come, the courage it has sometimes taken
The feelings I still can’t acknowledge, the child within,
Trust which comes hard for me, always the doubt inside
The losses that come with change, inevitable
University, things I never thought I would do
Hopefully confidence, eventually, in my abilities
Regrets, a lot of those, but nothing I can change
Live with them perhaps, they’re part of the past
I love my home, my dog and my chook,
I love sunshine on a cool day, coffee with friends
I love a good book, too interesting to leave alone
But not wanting to finish it, dragging it out in the end
I love Australia, my patriotism knows no bounds
I love that I knew my Granddad; he’s still in my heart
I love wandering the markets, lots of interesting things
I love the smell of fresh mown lawn, of rain after a long dry
Rambling now, but its fun, gentle thinking in my mind
Meandering in my mind, like a gentle winding river
I can hear noises from the TV, my dog wanting attention
I can hear a train in the distance, a car revving up
I’m mellow, just going with the moment, fingers tapping on the keyboard
I’ve come to the end now, of my meandering mind walking chatter
The end.

Inventiveness

A friend and I have been studying together the last few days and got to talking about how we could pass the exams with a little bit of inventiveness!! Not cheating – inventiveness. I do like that word. Our imaginations were working overtime and here are some of the ideas we came up with:

A tiny little tape recorder that fits into the ear like an earplug or hearing aid. It connects to an earring that turns it off and on.

Being able to write on the insides of the eyelid so we can pretend we are shutting our eyes and thinking but in reality we’re reading our notes.

A pen that has a little video in it on which is recorded our notes and it just keeps playing while we’re writing.

A pencil case that has a hidden panel that only pops out when the viewer wants it too and has a little video screen on it that plays tiny little videos of our notes.

I love the imagination – it can come up with all sorts of delightful ideas. Does anyone have anything to add to our list?

Kaz

Roses suggests:

A pen with an inbuilt automatic spell check?
Or linking up (umm, mentally or psych-ic-ly) with a genius during the hours of exam time? Or, wearing glasses that look like normal glasses on the outside but on the inside they have a screen that is thought provoked and can access data via satelite from any where in the known universe.

Kahless suggests:

I'd go for hypnosis. Hypnotise everyone so they dont notice that you have bought your notes in with you.

Rosymosie says:

I reckon an invisible genie on my shoulder who has done all the study for me, and then just sits there and gives me the answers !!

The Box Part 2

There’s a box, sitting in the corner
Long forgotten, dust sprinkling the top
Waiting for discovery, for the magic within
As the top is slowly pulled apart, dust scattering
A spark flies through the air, the contents alive
Two children laugh with pure delight, enchanted
As the contents seem to develop a life of their own
A cape, rich blue in colour, stars scattered throughout
Is pulled from the very depths, shimmering in the light
A man, tall and dark haired, bows down low
The cape now perched on his shoulders, tall hat on his head
With a flourish he reaches into the box, eyes twinkling
What treasure to produce, children giggling with anticipation
A bright coloured rainbow seems to shimmer in the air
Children’s eyes wide, as colours blend into bright lights
Balloons drift towards the ceiling, as a carousel bobs past
Fairy floss appears, the smell of toffee apples floats along
A dove flies through the air and a rabbit comes from nowhere
The box seems to almost be moving, doing a dance on the spot
As light pours out of the top and bubbles head to the ceiling
What other magic is inside, a trumpet plays from within
As the magician starts to do a jig, tap dancing on the lid
The music reaches a crescendo, vibrating as if alive
The magic within is pulsating, bringing the room to life
But suddenly the box is back to normal, dust on its lid
No children, no magician, just a box sitting in the attic
But what’s that written on the side, in letters just faded
Marvin’s Magical travelling show, come one, come all
As the box shakes itself, and laughter echoes inside
The ghosts of an era past, the dust settles gently on the lid
Just waiting for the right moment, to all begin once again

The Box

There’s a box, sitting in the corner
Long forgotten, dust sprinkling the top
Waiting for discovery, for the magic within
As the top is slowly pulled apart, dust scattering
A squeak, not a mouse though, deep within
A reverence almost, of the contents of the box
Long forgotten memories, a gasp of pure joy
As the treasures in the box slowly reveal
A child’s squeaky toy, the noise from before
A much treasured play thing, long forgotten
A shaky hand, reaching into the interior
Pulls it out, as if pure gold, puts it gently to the side
Reaches in again, pulls out a photo album
Browned with time, age in the crinkled corners
Images not forgotten, but stored within memories
Tinkling, a music box, cuddled within baby’s clothes
A little girls trinket, the ballerina dancing around
Dreams held within its contents, a little girls delight
A dress, pretty bow around the waist, lace on the hem
A party of six year olds, giggling, carefree, blue sky above
A gasp of disbelief, a dress wrapped within
Taken out and held in wonder and awe, white lace
Long missed but not forgotten, smell of lavender in the air
A hand reaching out, gently touching the old ladies
She turns to look at her granddaughter, tears in her eyes
Holds out the wedding dress, places it in her hands
It was never worn, a dream that ended with war
Another time, another era, a young girl with stars in her eyes
A brave young man, a woman who never forgot
A beautiful dress, cherished memories, a love long lost
Now another woman, stars in her eyes, a young man waiting
Gently holds this moment, reverently, her dreams to come
A lace wedding dress, years unfolding through mists of time
A young pregnant girl, a baby, born within a climate of war,
Marriage to another, a daughter cherished just the same
Now full circle, her granddaughter standing before her
Eyes so familiar, face a mirror image of one long ago
Memories blend with reality, once again she’s a young girl
Just starting life, living each day as it comes,
A young love that never died, held forever in her heart

Day by Day

Laugh
Play
be a child again
Innocent
Happy
Carefree
In the moment
Don’t think of the future
Don’t fear
Just be here, now
Live with reality
Whatever reality is
Live with hope
Anticipation
Excitement
Every moment cherished
Don’t look for an end
Live right now
With only this moment
In time
Feel everything
Touch
Sound
Senses, all of them
Tuned in
To just this moment
A moment
In
Time.
