We’ve just had the Grand Final of football, which this year was between two Victorian teams. What really amazes me is how the losing team is viewed by themselves and their fans. For God’s sake, they got to the Grand Final, doesn’t that count for something. It is like they are the worst people in the world because they lost. There has to be a loser in these games.
The team that lost was the favourite to win and perhaps they went in feeling a bit cocky or something, I don’t know. But you would think it was the worst thing in the world that they lost. I know the ultimate is winning the grand final but one guy was on there lamenting how much they had let themselves down and how bad they were. It’s almost like it isn’t right to say, well, the other team played better on the day, good on them, we lost but at least we got to the grand final. They have to beat up on themselves, say how bad they are and make out that they need to hide their heads in shame or something. It just amazes me.
And the fans are even worse. What happened to supporting your team and saying, well done guys, you reached the grand final, so in no way have you let us down. It baffles me that every year this happens to the loser of the grand final. I know it is disappointing and being the winner is what they aim for but what happened to being gracious in losing? Besides that, Hawthorn, the winning team haven’t won a grand final for 17 years, so bloody good on them!!
